Local Authorities are at the forefront of the implementation of the Government’s Poverty Reduction and Economic Recovery Strategy – particularly, through the Local Authority Transfer Fund (LATF) and the Local Authorities Service Delivery Action Plan (LASDAP). As the Chief Executive and Administrative Officer of the Municipal Council of Thika, it is my mandate to ensure that the Council’s objectives, programmes and management priorities are realised, so as to achieve good governance and improved service delivery for enhanced social - economic development. The prime objectives of the Municipal Council are: - To provide directly or in partnership with other stakeholders and development partners, access to education, water and health services
- To develop appropriate policies and regulation, water and health services
- To ensure safe and sustainable environment
- To provide reliable and properly maintained infrastructure
- To harness the local and external revenue sources and institute good governance policies to ensure financial sustainability of the Council
- To establish an institutional management framework that is responsive to the general demands of the population
To help improve efficiency and accountability in the Council, I wish to call upon you to give your time and energy through sharing your knowledge and opinions, and getting involved in planning and monitoring the implementation of the Council’s projects and activities. It is imperative that we rally behind our goal of RESTORING THIKA'S GLORY AS THE BIRMINGHAM OF KENYA. This is a long-term process requiring dedication, focus and systematic review of the Municipal Council’s strategies and plans – in order to effectively respond to the changing global, regional and local environment – in line with our national vision of making KENYA AN INDUSTRIALISED NATION BY 2030.
